The ATD Instructional Design Certificate program was an immersive course of 10 self-study and instructor-led modules completed over the course of 6 weeks.
The course we were designing was for a face-to-face instructor led training program for an insurance company (Sample Company).
Challenged to design a course relevant to experienced client service agents who needed a deeper understanding of their client base, I developed this scenario based activity to be completed in groups, pairs, or individually.
The capstone project consisted of demonstrating the ability to create an instructor-led (60 minute) course using the ROPES method for instructional design.

Review - 5 minutes - Group discussion/ice breaker to review a scenario familiar to participants. Attendees are asked to recall a time when they reviewed a client portfolio.
Overview - 10 minutes - Overview of session objectives explained to participants.
Presentation - 15 minutes - Facilitated delivery of content:
How to review a client portfolio (steps)
Review of current product offerings available to clients (video/handout)
Review of successful sales techniques (video)
Exercise - 20 minutes - Practical, scenario-based exercise using an example client and product sheet for reference.
Summary - 10 minutes - Session recap and discussion on how to apply what has been learned.
This full-day certification course completed on May 24, 2024, provided practical use of learner personas and game-based design elements to create content that enhances learner engagement.
Gamification starts with a story, and uses characters and challenges throughout to learn new skills, test abilities, and have fun along the way!
For the capstone project, I used the basis of Goldilocks and the Three Bears to create a fun game of a bear looking to get his pack ready for winter. He's stressed from the pressure and the course is designed to make learning about stress reduction fun and engaging.
